(Frequently Asked Questions)
Q. Dorothy, what's your background?A. I always loved makeup, even from a very young age, and initially got interested in makeup for theatre & dance. This progressed to studying for my international ITEC exams in Makeup Artistry and having completed a number of 'MAC' Masterclasses both in Ireland, UK and the USA, I also like to update my trainings regularly as I feel that learning is a continuous process!
I've also received lots of on-site Special Effects training from various film & tv jobs that I've worked on.
Previous to makeup, I attended the National University of Ireland, Galway and hold an honours degree in Electronic Engineering (yes, a bit different to Makeup Artistry!).

Q. Where do you work from?
A. I have my own studio in Galway City... It's where I hold most of my bridal makeup trials, preparation test shots for photoshoots, makeup lessons, meetings and where you'll see me doing all my paperwork!
Q. Why does a makeup artist cost more than a beautician?
A. Traditionally, beauticians train for just one or two days in the art of makeup application, whereas a makeup artist would train normally for much, much longer. There is quite a big difference with regard to this... makeup artists are experts in their particular field - whereas a beautician would be experts in theirs, which usually focus more on giving wonderful beauty treatments like facials, waxing and other fantastic treatments.
Q. What three products could you not live without?
A. Yves San Laurent's 'Touch Eclat', MAC's Studio Sculpt concealer and Maybelline's 'Colossol Volume' mascara (cheap & cheerful!). Without a doubt, the three best products of all time.... oh, and to add a fourth, it would have to be Elizabeth Arden's Eight Hour Cream. Amazing.
Q. What is the best advice you could give to someone?
A. Look after your skin! The best way to do this is drink a minimum of 2 litres of distilled water per day, reduce refined foods like sugar and white bread and to get as much fresh fruit and vegetables in as possible. It makes such a difference to the overall quality of your skin!
